Talking about Jammu and Kashmir cricket team's history, the team played in the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 1959-60 season. In the initial years, Jammu and Kashmir was one of the weakest teams in the competition. It took the team more than two decades to register a win in first-class cricket.
The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team won its first Ranji Trophy game in the 1982-83 season by defeating Services. In the last one decade or so, Jammu and Kashmir has put up a better performance in the domestic circuit.
In the 2013-14 season, the team reached the knockout stage of the Ranji Trophy after a gap of more than 10 years. Before that, it had last reached the knockouts in 2001-02 season.

In recent years, a number of players from the Jammu and Kashmir have also played for India. In 2016, Parvez Rasool became the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play for India. Later, Umran Malik also plied his trade for India in limited-overs cricket.
