The Assam cricket team represents the state of Assam in Indian domestic cricket. It is governed by the Assam Cricket Association and plays its home games at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
Talking about Assam cricket team's history, the team was founded in the year 1948 and played in the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 1948-49 season. Rupert Kettle was Assam's first captain and he also scored the first century for the team.
Assam registered their first win in the Ranji Trophy in 1951-52 season when they defeated Odisha by 103 runs. Assam played in the East Zone until the 2002–03 season when the zonal system was abolished. Till that phase, Assam had never progress ahead of the pre-quarter-finals.
In the 2006-07 season, the Assam cricket team won its plate group before losing the semi-final to Odisha. In the 2009–10 season, Assam entered the elite group of the Ranji Trophy, and topped the plate group and subsequently progressed to the Super League.
However, they could not sustain that run for long and ended at the bottom of their group in the Super League in 2010-11 season. As a result, they were relegated to the Plate League for the following season.
In the 2012-13 season, Assam qualified for the final of a major tournament for the first time when they finished runners-up in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Assam's best performance in the Ranji Trophy came in 2015-16 when they reached the semifinal for the very first time.
